The all white room.

Syrie Maugham's elegant 'party room' at number 213 the King's Road, popularized all white interior decoration and defined 1930s glamour. Combining mirrored screens with traditional furniture and the occasional surrealist flourish, Syrie's unique style won her clients such as Elsa Schiaperelli, Wallis Simpson and the Prince of Wales.

Pauline Metcalf's new book celebrates Syrie's interiors taking readers on a journey through her transatlantic commissions.

Syrie Maugham. Staging the Glamorous Interior is available from Potterton Books London priced £49.95.
